OUR MATERIAL
Heavy. Soft. Built to last.
HOODIES
50% recycled cotton, 50% organic cotton. A dense, heavy fabric that feels different the moment you put it on – and looks the same after the 50th wash as it did on day one. The natural mélange tones of our hoodies come directly from the recycled fibre mix – no additional dyeing. Every colour is a result of the fibre blend, not chemistry.
No pilling. No shrinking. No fading.
“Like a big hug” – someone wrote that in a review once. Couldn’t have said it better.
SWEATER
Same composition – 50% recycled, 50% organic – but a lighter fabric weight. Perfect if you want warmth without it being too much. Not too light, not too heavy. The sweaters are dyed, but keep the same durability and softness as our hoodies.
T-SHIRTS
100% organic cotton. Heavier than what you’re used to from other brands. No fabric that falls apart after a few washes. You’ll notice the difference the moment you hold it.
WHY ORGANIC COTTON?
Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers or genetically modified seeds. Compared to conventional cotton:
- No toxic pesticides or herbicides – better for soil, water and the people who farm it
- Significantly lower water consumption – organic cotton is primarily rain-fed rather than relying on artificial irrigation systems
- Healthier soil through crop rotation instead of monoculture – keeping farmland fertile long-term
- No genetically modified organisms (GMO)
Organic cotton isn’t a trend – it’s the way cotton should be grown. It forms the foundation for all our products.
WHY RECYCLED COTTON?
The recycled cotton in our hoodies and sweaters comes from pre-consumer production scraps – leftover fabric from textile manufacturing that would otherwise end up in landfill. These scraps are sorted by colour and mechanically processed into new fibres.
Producing recycled cotton requires almost no water and significantly less energy compared to virgin cotton. And because the fibres are sorted by colour, our hoodies get their natural mélange tones without any additional dyeing. The sweaters are dyed, but the resource savings in fibre production remain.
The result is a fabric that’s just as durable and soft – while keeping textile waste in the loop instead of sending it to landfill.
OUR DYES AND PRINTS
All prints on SEASICK pieces are screen printed using water-based, biodegradable inks – GOTS-compliant and free from harmful solvents. The result: vivid prints that don’t fade. Not even after 50 washes.
All colours and dyes are REACH-compliant – tested for safety to both people and the environment under the strictest European chemical regulations. In plain terms: no toxic residues on your skin, no burden on the water.
OUR PACKAGING
No plastic. Not in production, not in shipping. Your SEASICK piece arrives in recycled kraft paper – no polybag, no plastic wrap. Even in production, our pieces aren’t individually packed in polybags, unlike what’s standard at most other brands.
Sounds obvious. Unfortunately, it isn’t.
CERTIFICATIONS
Our material suppliers and manufacturers are certified according to the following standards:
GOTS – Global Organic Textile Standard
The world’s leading standard for processing organic fibres. GOTS certifies the entire supply chain – from field to finished product. That means: strict environmental and social criteria, no harmful chemicals in dyes or auxiliaries, and mandatory wastewater treatment at every processing facility.
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100
One of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. Every product bearing this label has been tested for over 1,000 substances that could harm human health – from pesticides to heavy metals to formaldehyde. The more skin contact, the stricter the requirements.
REACH
The European chemicals regulation. Ensures that all chemicals used in production – including colours and dyes – are assessed for their impact on health and the environment.
MADE IN PORTUGAL
All SEASICK pieces are made in northern Portugal – a region with generations of textile expertise. The area around Porto and Braga is one of Europe’s strongest textile clusters: from yarn to weaving to finished garments, everything happens within the same region. Short distances between production steps, experienced craftsmanship and strict EU environmental standards – that’s why we produce here.
Our partners are certified family-run facilities, not anonymous large-scale factories. We know the people who make our pieces and visit the production sites twice a year. That matters to us, because we want to see the working conditions first-hand – and because quality is best judged in person.
Production takes 2–3 months per collection. That’s longer than brands manufacturing in Asia – but it also means: European working conditions, fair wages, short supply routes within Europe and a carbon footprint that reflects it.
